Assistant Project Manager, Analytics Lab (1 year contract)

You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day execution of the team and working closely with cross-functional work-streams and stakeholders in driving academic projects in the area of data analytics. You will also support the Academic Director in general administration and lab resources maintenance, e.g. web-site, application, servers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management
    • Apply Project Management methodologies and approaches to manage project and set expectations
    • Drive the formation and gathering of stakeholders’ requirements and project/research scopes
  • Manage tasks, deliverables, and project resources to meet objectives and timelines
  • Communicate status & timelines for cross-functional team understanding
    • Quality control: user tests, verification of requirements documentation
    • Facilitate project hand-overs to professional IT Service Provider
  • SMU Lab Management Support
    • Recruitment activities
    • Contracting, purchasing, payment, invoicing
    • PR, Marketing events and communications
    • Governance and compliance to SMU policies and guidelines, including IT security compliance
  • Data Analytics
    • Support analytics project task and activities such as: data-mining, analysis, data accuracy and data model validating

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have:
    • Minimum Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science or related disciplines
    • Supply Chain / Logistics experience in field of Data Science/ Analytics preferred
    • Intermediate level MS Office skills, .e.g. MS Excel
    • Stakeholder management, cross-functional project management and analytical skills
    • Work experience in website maintenance (HTML, JavaScript, CSS), Windows / Linux / UNIX operating system and command line tools
    • Multi-tasking, adaptability and flexibility
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Preferred
    • Experience in analytics project delivery
    • Experience in management and student mentorship
  • Experience / Proficiency in the following:
    • Database management system e.g. MySQL, MongoDB, MS SQL Server
    • Python or R
    • Programming for data science, statistics, or modelling
    • Data visualisation tools or libraries e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Python, and JavaScript

You will be responsible for leading the creative design and development of innovative analytics prototypes and solutions as well as contributing to research works and papers for the Analytics Lab.

Key Responsibilities

  • Resident Data Science Engineer
    • Work with stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive innovation
    • Drive data-mining and analysis
    • Assess effectiveness and accuracy of data sources and data gathering techniques
    • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets
    • Use predictive modelling to increase and optimise value
    • Develop company A/B testing framework and test model quality
    • Assist in writing research paper
  • Project Management
    • Responsible for leading through all stages of research and development work
    • Initiate new projects with business sponsors and propose suitable solutions
    • Drive formation and gathering of business users' requirements and project scopes
    • Support managing student/academic projects
  • Drive Development of IT Applications/Prototypes
    • Work closely with faculty, engineers/scientists and students to build data products
    • Conduct experiments to tabulate and verify results
    • Quality control: user tests, verification of requirements documentation
    • Facilitate project hand-overs to professional IT Service Provider
  • SMU Lab Management
    • Support general administration, recruitment, internal work processes, compliances when necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have:
    • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related disciplines, with specialization in Data Science/Analytics strongly preferred
    • In-depth knowledge of data integration, metadata, BI analytics tools and Big Data tools
  • Working experience / proficiency in the following:
    • Database management system e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MS SQL Server
    • Programming for data science, statistics, or modeling
    • Python or R, including numerical libraries e.g. NumPy and scikit-learn
    • Data visualisation tools or libraries e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Python (ggplot, matplotlib, pandas, pygal) and JavaScript (Leaflet, D3)
    • Windows/Linux/UNIX operating system and command line tools
    • Data applications e.g. Weka, RapidMiner, SAS EM
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good project management and organization skills
  • Multi-tasking, adaptability and flexibility
    • Experience in managing client relationships.
  • Candidates with experience in the following will be advantageous:
    • Managing and mentoring junior team members
    • Data crawling e.g. popular social APIs and web scraping
    • NLP (Natural Language Processing)
    • Interactive web-based dashboard application development for data insights reporting (using HTML, JavaScript, CSS)
    • Installing, configuring and testing Hadoop ecosystem components
    • Full stack software development
    • Entries in Kaggle or other data-focused competitions or hackathons
    • Certificates in Cloudera, HortonWorks or MapR Hadoop distributions
